Welcome to the DPL...

Welcome to the Damsel Preservation League or "DPL" for short. Contained herein, you'll find a multitude of damsels of all ages worthy of preservation, as well as many links to current artists & writers of the DID genre, and many old-school favourites. Although this is basically a research type blog, there may be some occasional "mature" themed comics so, beware of this. Also this blog & is moderated to keep the spam to a minimum. The majority of the images are ones I've personally "rebuilt" from either my own collection or scans found elsewhere on the 'net. Any applicable copyrights belong to the owners and I make no money from them. Also note that this blog is still a work in progress and will be added to as I continue along...

Ruth's Remorse

In an earlier post I stated that I never knew when a "damsel-in-distress" sitch would manifest itself. I've culled a few from romance comics, of all places. Here's another find from the DCM and courtesy of Craig Yoe. From My Romantic Adventures #50 (Best Syndicated Features, Inc. under American Comics Group~Oct.-Nov., 1954). For mood music, may I suggest playing "Crazy Bitch" from Buck Cherry in the background...ahem. Anyway, in the story here, Ruth is a victim of her own mind-set...thinking she's inherited her father's insanity. WARNING! Abuse panels! Straightjacket panels! Strong-arming panels! Bonus cover and detail panels follow in this self-restored thriller. Read on...

Bonus goodies!

It's hard to see but she is gagged in this panel.

Note that Ruth is still in her straightjacket...in the bath!

Bubble Trouble For Phoebe

I like to delve into as much reading as I can. Mostly books or other printed materials. Basically, anything that will help me to escape the pressures of the Real World around me, I'm up for a read on. My latest read is a news strip titled, "Phoebe's Unicorn" by Dana Simpson. The strip centers round Phoebe and her new-found friend "Marigold"...who just happens to be a unicorn (cue the Irish Rovers "The Unicorn" song...) There's a lot of humor and even some wit here and for me, it takes me back to wanting to be a kid again. I was surprised to find this in a recent newspaper from, Saturday, October 1, 2016. And, since this blog deals with all things "Damsels In Distress", it fits right in...

The joke here is familiar and not to be taken too seriously. The strip is a fun read and you can bet I'll be getting the books for this one.

Velma's Solo Mystery

Here are the pertinent pages for a rare, solo adventure for Velma, as found in Scooby-Doo #126 (DC Comics~January, 2008). It's the last story in the book (The Phantom of the Rock Club), in which Velma comes to the aid of her old 3rd grade school chum, Missy. Here, I've left the last page as is so, you'll have to flip it to read it better, heh, heh...

Velma's Cover Dilemma

Here's a kind of follow-up to the Daphne peril cover I posted, HERE What starts as a "gotcha" cover ends up with some nice surprises in this lead story from Scooby-Doo #120 (DC Comics~July, 2007), as the gang try to rescue Vivian Lamoon, from, well, you'll just have to read it to believe it, heh, heh...bonus cover and detail panels follow for this 8-pager. Unfortunately, neither Daphne or Velma get any "treatment" but, Daphne does get roughed up a bit on pg.6. And note that Ms. Lamoon is actually kidnapped...twice! Read on...

...aaaaaannndd...the cover with another detail of Daphne...

...aaanndddd....more goodies! I edited out the bi-plane in the last panel. Due to so many border overlaps, it just looked better.

Millie's Milieu

Meet Millie. Gold-digger and all around bad girl. She can't talk right now for obvious reasons, heh, heh. Seems poor Millie inadvertently set herself up for a rather unfortunate end in this quick, three-pager from Law Breakers Suspense Stories #11 (Capitol Stories, Inc. under Charlton Publications~March, 1953)...did the best I could with the scans I could find...not that will help poor Millie, here...MUWAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA! *AHEM* And if the splash-page doesn't grab at you...I'm sure the last panel will. It's one heck of a cliff-hanger! Read on...
